Joel Garb on Racism Toward Vietnamese During Basic Training

Excerpts of Jim Kurtz's oral history interview with Joel Garb for the Wisconsin Veterans Museum.  Unlike most of my veterans, Garb served in the Army Nursing Corps, and was attached to a helicopter assault company near Kon Tum.  He's a founding member of the Madison Chapter of Veterans for Peace, and serves on the Board of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum.  I'm mostly interested in his remembrances of how Vietnamese were depicted in Basic Military Training, and how that influenced his reactions toward them once he arrived in Vietnam.
